Anpin Yuanshe Xiaoyuan: A Blend of History and Future

The inspiration for Anpin Yuanshe Xiaoyuan came from its location, one of the history and culture conservation streets in the Qinhuai District. The design idea of Anpin Yuanshe has gradually taken shape through recurrent planning, reversion, and re-planning. It is a design that belongs to both the future and the past, with an immutable connotation that contains changes.

What sets Anpin Yuanshe Xiaoyuan apart is its respect for the historical layout of the streets and lanes of the area. The design develops a low-rise courtyard-style residence, including streets, lanes, yards, and light well, revering the nature of south Nanjing city. With grey tiles, white walls, and wavy hip roof, Anpin Yuanshe creates an ideal residential style, combining house with park accessible to visit and live in.

The realization of this design is a testament to the blend of history and future that defines the city. The city's history and future have been interpreted thousands of times, and to truly understand it, one must walk into the streets and lanes, and experience the wisps of rising cooking smoke and life.

The design specifications of Anpin Yuanshe Xiaoyuan are a study in contrasts. Two opposite forms have been developed for Heyuan and Xiaoyuan of Anpin Yuanshe, one is steady and proud and the other is moderate and inclusive. These two forms, however, share a common trait - a combination of hardness and softness.

The design of Anpin Yuanshe Xiaoyuan is a reflection on Chinese traditional and contemporary residential aesthetics. It respects the original impression of Nanjing city and combines house with park accessible. It presents unique solutions at the intersection of traditional culture and modern civilization, offering an ideal form of residential style in China.

The project started in January 2019 and was completed in May 2019 in Nanjing. The past 12 years have seen Chinese habitat aesthetic change rapidly. The design of Anpin Yuanshe Xiaoyuan has faced the challenges of balancing history and future, and cultural reservation and city building. Despite these challenges, it has emerged as a winner of the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020.
